Twisted-Handle Paper Bags for Delivery and Catering
Twisted-handle bags are kraft or white paper bags with twisted paper rope handles for customer carrying. They’re the standard for delivery, catering pickup, and any restaurant operation where the customer transports the order more than a few steps. The visual upgrade over SOS bags (which have no handles) is significant — twisted-handle bags signal a premium experience.

What makes a twisted-handle bag different from an SOS bag?+
Twisted-handle bags have rope-style paper handles attached for customer carrying comfort over distance. SOS bags have no handles — they're held at the top edge. Twisted-handle is the right choice for delivery, catering, and retail boutique where the customer carries the bag more than a few steps.
Are twisted handles strong enough for heavy orders?+
Yes. Modern twisted-handle bags are reinforced where the handle attaches to the bag wall — they hold 15–20 lb of takeout food without tearing. For very heavy orders (catering with multiple aluminum pans), use a double-wall twisted-handle bag or two single bags.
Are twisted-handle bags compostable?+
Plain kraft twisted-handle bags are compostable in any program that accepts uncoated paper, INCLUDING the twisted paper handles (they're the same material). Watch out for glue type — most use a starch-based food-safe adhesive that composts, but some legacy bags use synthetic glue that doesn't.
Can twisted-handle bags be custom printed?+
Yes. They're the most-printed paper bag format in foodservice — restaurants commonly print logos and branding on the panel between the handle attachment points. 1–2 color flexo at ~25,000–50,000 unit minimums with 6–8 week lead times.
How do they pack and ship?+
Flat-packed, 200–250 bags per case for standard sizes. Pallet density is lower than for handleless SOS bags (the handle adds bulk). Plan for ~50–80 cases per pallet.
When should I NOT use a twisted-handle bag?+
For in-store counter pickup where the customer walks 5 feet to the door — the handle adds cost without value. For very greasy food where grease would seep through and weaken the handle attachment — use a leak-resistant SOS or a poly-lined bag instead. For very small single-item orders — the bag is oversize and looks sloppy.
