Portion Cups for Sauces, Dressings, and Sample Service
Portion cups are small single-serve containers for sauces, dressings, condiments, and tasting samples. The two material choices are polypropylene (PP, microwave-safe) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET, cold-only, clearer). Order cups and matching lids together — leak-resistant snap-fit pairing matters more for delivery operations than for in-house service.
The most common sizes are 0.5oz, 0.75oz, 1oz, 1.5oz, 2oz, 3.25oz, 4oz, and 5.5oz. 1oz and 2oz are the dominant sizes — 1oz for single-condiment portions (ketchup, ranch, soy sauce) and 2oz for salad dressings and dipping sauces. 3.25oz and larger are used for soup samples, salsa, and side portions.
Are portion cups microwave safe?+
Most PP portion cups are microwave safe up to ~230°F. PS (polystyrene) portion cups are NOT microwave safe. Always check the resin code on the cup bottom — #5 (PP) is microwavable, #6 (PS) is not.
Do portion cup lids come separately?+
Yes — portion cups and matching lids are sold as separate SKUs. The lid snaps onto the cup; you can also use the cup without a lid for in-restaurant condiment service. Order both as a paired system for to-go and delivery applications where leak resistance matters.
How are portion cups packaged?+
Typical case packs are 2500–5000 cups per case for 1oz, 2500 for 2oz, and 1000–2000 for larger sizes. Cups stack tightly so cube efficiency is high. Lids ship at 1500–2500 per case.
Can portion cups be used for hot food?+
PP portion cups are stable up to ~230°F, suitable for hot sauces, soup samples, and butter. They are not designed for prolonged high heat (oven, fryer). PET portion cups are cold-only.
Are portion cups recyclable?+
PP (#5) is technically recyclable but rarely accepted curbside for small-format items. Compostable PLA portion cups are an alternative — but they are not heat-stable above ~113°F and not appropriate for hot sauces. CPLA portion cups handle higher temps.
